The Best Cross Training Shoes

Buying cross training shoes is not a difficult thing to do but finding the best cross trainers could be a little challenging. There are so many types and styles to choose from. Shopping on the internet is beneficial since you could read about all the necessary details. Your choices are also more diverse as well.

When buying the best cross training shoes for yourself, think of your personal purpose and needs; weight training, cardiovascular exercise, or walking to mention a few. Some trainers cater to specific mixes like weight training and cardio. Read all the details you can about the shoe you are about to choose. The right pair can make a real difference in your stamina or endurance.

Remember, the general rules of thumb while shopping. Your heel should fit snugly into the back of the shoe. The ball of your foot needs to fit well into the wide part of the shoe, not tightly. And, of course, for the best fit in a cross training shoe, always leave some room between the front of your toes and the front of the shoe. That usually is a quarter of an inch to half an inch. This rule applies to running shoes as well.

Shoe Inserts For Running - Arch Supports Fight The Foot Pain

Hitting the Road

Pounding the pavement can be a great way to get in shape, blow off some steam, listen to your favorite playlist on your iPod, or just to spend a few minutes alone with your thoughts. This popular form of exercise is beneficial to your heart and circulation but can be very stressful on your knees, back and feet, especially when preventative measures aren't taken.

Common Running Related Pains

Because running is considered a "high impact" sport, there are a lot of foot related injuries that can be caused by running. This is due to the fact that when you run it magnifies the effect of your weight hitting the ground by 2-3 times.

Injuries can include shin splints, plantar fasciitis, runner's knee, twisted ankles, and stress fractures. Many athletes try to work through the pain of these injuries without giving a second thought to serious foot harm or prolonged trauma to these areas. These injuries can be compounded when runners neglect to properly support their feet while running.

Sadly, some runners will spend close to $200 on a pair of good running shoes, but forget to invest in actually supporting their feet. shoes alone cannot give you the support, balance and stability that arch supports can. Wearing arch supports while running can decrease the likelihood of the aforementioned foot pains and provide a more comfortable exercise experience.

Shoe Inserts For Running Help Keep You on Your Feet

When you run, your foot flexes and absorbs the shock on the body hitting a hard surface. Wearing shoe inserts like arch supports while you are running, can properly cradle your foot and its arches and give the much needed support to the ball of the foot. The ball of the foot is where the "spring" in your step occurs and eases your steps into a fast and smooth pace. The balance a good arch support shoe insert offers can increase your longevity while running.

Insist On Personally Fit Arch Supports (Shoe Inserts)

Every human runs differently and every human foot is different. Because of this, an arch support or shoe insert, bought from the Internet or grocery store, simply will not do. An arch support needs to be personally fit to your foot. In fact, more damage can be caused to your feet by using improperly fit arch supports. Shoe inserts, especially because the stress to your body running creates, should be custom fit to your feet and shoes by someone trained to fit arch supports. A personally fit arch support could mean the difference between a healthy, happy run or a slow, painful walk.

New Fall Shoes!

The fall is one of my favorite times of year. I love to see the leaves change color along with pumpkins, mums and hay bales everywhere. There's crispness in the air and the smell of fireplaces in the evening. As fall arrives, the sandals, flip-flops and shorts get put away and the fall and winter shoes and clothes come in.

Each fall I find it exciting to see the new trends; the colors, styles and textures that will dominate the industry. Some of the trends continue in popularity from the previous year, while others are new looks.

This year, gray is one of the hottest colors. In all different hues, from the softest dove gray to the deepest charcoal, it's showing up everywhere. I've seen boots, Mary Janes, and ballet flats all in gray as well as many different textures including patents, suede's, satins and the list goes on...

Metallic's, such as gold, silver and bronze are very popular and found in many different designer shoe lines, from the soft brushed gold to complete shine. I've seen some adorable ballet flats in soft gold and of course plenty of sexy metallic sling back evening sandals.

Mary Janes are one of my favorites, but Mary Janes in black patent leather are my favorite! I like both the rounded and pointed toe but I prefer the rounded just a bit more. I especially like the look of the cap toe. Suede pumps with patent leather cap toes are one of the many other possible combinations of materials and they have such a sophisticated look.

Classic styles are getting a bit of a twist with an exotic flair of animal prints along with embossed leather crocodile and snake. Animal prints are often being paired with black or brown leather.

Satins shoes have of course been dazzling for years. Some simple, others adorned with jewels. Black always seems to be a popular choice for its sophistication. Red satin, while sophisticated as well, has a true "wow" factor.

Fortunately, getting the latest fall trends doesn't have to break the bank. For the most part, shoe styles can be found at prices that are on the less expensive end to very costly. Checking local as well as online stores can help get the look you want for the price you can afford.

Why Italian Shoes Are Often Expensive

When I think about Italian shoes I immediately have images of stylish, handmade footwear. These are shoes that will really have a big impact on your appearance. There's no doubt, however, that they can tend to be rather expensive.

This article takes a closer look at footwear from this European country. In particular, I look to tackle the whole question of why Italian shoes should be more expensive than many alternatives. To get a few ideas, let us look at some typical characteristics of Italian shoes.

The first thing to note is the materials used in their production. They'll often be made from high quality materials, including leather and suede. Such materials are chosen because they look great and offer your feet plenty of protection. But are such materials cheap?

Unfortunately, they are considerably more expensive than the synthetic alternatives that you often see in cheaper shoes. This means that, when you buy a pair of Italian shoes, you'll be paying a premium. The higher price reflects the fact that you'll be buying shoes made from better materials.

But what about the process of their manufacture? The very best Italian shoes will be handmade. There's a real skill to making a great pair of shoes. Once again, this will add to the price that you pay. It's possible to get cheaper shoes made in factories in other countries of the world. Labour costs are likely to be lower elsewhere.

You need to ask yourself whether you'd be happy to accept shoes of a lower standard. If you would then you can certainly pay less by avoiding Italian footwear.

These shoes are made to high standards, using some of the finest materials. That means that they're made to last, but it also means that they will usually be more expensive. You need to decide whether you're happy to pay more for shoes of a superior quality.

Toddler Dress Shoes

Maybe you know someone who just gave birth or their child is at the stage where they are growing quickly, you can consider them giving baby dress shoes. Your problem would be what would be the size and style to give. First you can ask the parents about the size. The style will depend on you. There are certain things that you need to consider in purchasing baby dress shoes as gift.

Some of which are enumerated below:

Since you will be buying it as gift then it will be impossible for you to bring along the toddlers with you to buy baby dress shoes. The best thing to do is to ask the parents of the baby to measure the feet make an outline in the paper. It is best to add several inches on it. It is ok to have extra inches than to purchase a smaller size in which the children will not be able to use. Remember toddlers grow fast and shoes sizes can change from month to month so it is best to choose shoes with extra inches in front. There are some stores that offer toys and plays to help parents fit the shoes.

If you are a little bit short of budget you can visit discount stores that are also great sources for shoes that get limited wear such as dress shoes.

The fit may vary even if they have the same brand. Remember, toes must have a ½ inch clearance and nothing more. It is typical to have one size larger than their foot. You buy heed pads if in case the shoes has wider heel but the rest of the part fits.

If the gift is intended for toddlers for its everyday shoes investing on good pair of sneakers is a good idea. These shoes will take a pounding so make sure that you purchase it with quality. Check for the materials leather shoes are much better than vinyl and it is best if you purchase shoes that are stitched instead of using glue.

If you have everything in your mind then it is time for you to choose the perfect toddler dress shoes for your child.

You don't have to buy expensive shoes in order to please the receiver. Buying baby shoes with quality even if it is not that expensive is enough to make the toddler happy. Fancy shoes or decorated shoes with cartoon characters are the best choice. Toddlers love shoes with colourful design. So, if you consider buying baby dress shoes as gift make sure that you bear in mind the above tips. The parents would be happy receiving these gifts for their child.

Unique Turtle Tattoos

If you have ever seen some of the turtle tattoos out there, you probably know what I mean when I say imagination is the only limit to design. I must admit I was never especially interested in tattoos of any animal but when I saw a woman with a tribal turtle I began to change my mind. Turns out that turtle tattoos are one of the most requested designs. I know that while looking through the database of designs I use, I came across a few award winning turtle tattoos and I was sold.

Everyone has their own preference, style and taste; mine happens to be that of black ink only and small tattoos as opposed to big pieces. That's just my taste however, and it certainly doesn't have to be yours. There is a design about nine inches long and it's a trail of turtles on their way to somewhere or another; they even have turtle tracks in the design. I saw this on a woman's thigh and it looked great. Another man I saw had psychedelic turtle tattoos and they were abstract in design while vibrant in color. My concern over color is that it fades, as all ink does and this is why I lean towards solid black ink (which looks gray or blue as it fades).

For unique turtle tattoos simply start browsing award winning designs to start (I use chopper-tattoos). Once you find a few you love, turtle or not, start brainstorming ways to combine what you've found. If you have a great tattoo artist you can easily take your designs and show them what aspects of each you like and request they draw a unique design for you. Don't be shy or hesitant if this is your first inking - artists love to create unique pieces.

What You & Herschel Walker Have in Common

What do you and Herschel Walker have in common? If you're a college football player or attend the University of Georgia, or if you've won the coveted Heisman Trophy, then you have much in common. However, the majority of America does not have much in common with the fastest man over 220 lbs. Herschel Walker was a very unique individual. Indeed, from his humble nature to his freakish athletic ability, he was in a league of his own.

Those rare characteristics extended to his work ethic and self dedication as well, when he let the world know that he still did 2,000 push ups, 3,000 sit-ups, 1,500 pull ups and 1,000 dips - a day! As unbelievable as that sounds, it isn't far fetched if you've seen Herschel Walker's display of cuts and curves that we call a physique; quite a specimen indeed. Adding to the fact that he supposedly didn't touch a weight until the NFL, you can see the origins of his brute force which allowed him to compete at such high levels of competition.

So what do you and Herschel Walker have in common - Almost everything! You have all the tools you need to have a Greek statue-like physique using the very appendages that Herschel used. No, I don't expect you to churn out the thousands of reps he does, but I'm going to show you what you can do with push ups, sit ups, and such to look like he did, or at least a version of him; which I'm sure that would suffice for most of America.

- Chest & Abs - have a stop watch or timer ready. Get down and do 25 push ups, remembering to lock out your elbows. This will ensure you not only get a full range of motion but will get your triceps involve to their maximum potential. After the 25th rep turn over and knock out 20 crunches with your feet elevated in a 45 degree position without rest. Once completed start your timer and set it for 2 minutes - that's your rest. After rest, repeat this process until you get to 100 push ups and 80 sit ups. Once you've reached this peak start taking off five reps from each exercise and 10 seconds of rest until you get down to zero push ups.

- Quad, Hams & Glutes - find something in your house or area that has around 10 lbs of weight. ANYTHING: a crock pot, a basket of clothes, an X-BOX (if you have a dumbbell you can use that too). Anything you can carry. Hold it over your head and lunge 70 paces. After the 70 paces find a wall and, while still holding the object (the smaller the better) hold it over your head or out in front of your chest, both with extended arms, and do a wall sit for one minute. For added effect, if you have a treadmill, get on it and set it on an incline of 4 and a speed of 2.5-3 and walk backwards on it with a lunge position, having your butt down and chest up. This can be done on a hill as well. Repeat this superset 3 times.

- Triceps & Back - use an elevated object such as a chair or ottoman and turn around putting your feet out and hands on the object like a dip with your feet extended. Dip down as far as you can but taking 3 seconds to do so and 3 seconds to return up as well. Once you've done three reps, do another three as fast as possible, remembering to extend your elbows all the way. Then return to doing three reps, taking 3 seconds on the way down and way up. Do this exercise to failure, getting in three sets.

- Lower Back - performing supermen is the best and easiest way to strengthen your lower back if you've not worked on it. Simply lie on the floor on your stomach with your arms and legs extended. Raise your shoulders and thighs (quads) off the ground, tightening your glutes and holding that position with your lower back. Stay in this position for 30 seconds on and 30 seconds rest for five sets. Eventually work your way up to 40 seconds on, 20 off and then 50/10 and 1 minute of continuous contractions.

You may not have what it takes to run like Herschel Walker, to deliver punishing blows like Herschel Walker, or to even sell chicken like Hershel Walker (he owns a business that sells chicken) but in time you can still look like Herschel Walker.

Top 5 Runners Supplements

As a runner, I know what it is like to try and squeeze every ounce out of my training in order to try and set a PR at my next big race. I love the spirit of competition and nothing beats the feeling of placing at a local or national race. As my career continues to develop and I find that training alone is not sufficient to compete with the big boys, I've had to look for other ways to improve my training and race times.

So what are the best running supplements? There are a lot of supplements for runners that can be used to make your training better. The best running supplements are those that can provide energy during runs and aid with recovery afterwards. We've all had that long run where we just run out of steam or the interval day where we just can't seem to find our proper pace. Although nutrition and rest play a big part in that, I recommend several supplements for runners to keep you properly fueled for your running training.

For energy and endurance, some of the best running supplements are products like NO-XPLODE or Endurance Fuel. Although they function differently, they both provide a boost to help you get more out of your runs. They can also be used as race fuel and implemented as part of your pre-race routine. I put both of these supplements on my list of best supplements for runners and recommend using both. NO-XPLODE will pump your muscles and aid in the blood flow during strenuous exercise, while Endurance Fuel or Ultra Fuel will provide a 3 staged carbohydrate energy rush for pre, during, and post workout needs.

Some other supplements for runners that I recommend are a multi-vitamin and whey protein. Multi-Vitamins are a no brainer, especially since as an endurance athlete your body will require more vitamins and minerals than non-athletes. Regarding whey protein, although there is a lot of debate about the benefits of whey protein for endurance athletes, I believe that the extra protein makes a great reserve fuel tank and also helps your muscles to heal and recover faster. What is the point of training hard if your body will not reap the benefits of the training?

When it comes to race time, the best supplements for runners are energy gels. I think the best energy gels are made by Gu, but I have also heard great reviews about Cliff and Hammer Gels. During long races, I recommend taking an energy gel every 5-6 miles to keep your body fueled properly. However, make sure you drink plenty of fluids and try to avoid too many of the caffeinated gels. I've made the mistake of doing otherwise and it cost my body tremendously by the end of the race because of the glucose imbalance and a case of the jitters. However, as long as you take the recommended dosage and practice training with them before a race, you will be able to develop a formula that works for you.

The best supplements for runners are those that bring added value to your training and races, and I think the above list does that. Although there are a few other supplements that may benefit you, I would start with the list above and then move on from there.

Run Away From Runner's Knee

The number of Americans who consider themselves runners is now over 40 million; this has also led to the upsurge in the number of individuals who are suffering from runner's knee. This condition, which is known as Patello-femoral Pain Syndrome or Chondromalacia Patellae in the medical world, is characterized by the degeneration or deterioration of the patella--the cartilage portion located at the back of the kneecap.

This disease, which is more common than you think, is probably called runner's knee because of the high incidence of knee disorders among runners. In fact, one in every five runners is expected to develop knee problems or knee-related injuries in the course of about 12 months.

The pain felt by people with runner's knee is simply excruciating. You will know that you are developing this degenerative disease as soon as you feel a dull pain in the area near the patella. People with runner's knee do not only get annoyed because of the pain that the condition brings, it can also hamper their daily activities or ability to play other sports.

Aside from runners, people who are at risk of having runner's knee also include cyclists, soccer players, rowers, tennis players and rugby players. If your sport, lifestyle or work entails putting the knees in constant stress, then you may be endangering your knees to early retirement.

Causes Of Runner's Knee

Although this condition is called runner's knee, it doesn't really imply that all runners are bound to get runner's knee. Runner's knee is only named as such because of the huge number of runners getting this condition at least once in their whole track and field career. And here are the main causes.

Overexertion

The number one cause of Chondromalacia Patellae is overuse or overexertion. If you do not stop using your knees, even if you are injured or if you feel like there is something wrong with your knees, then you will likely develop this condition. In order to protect your kneecaps from overuse, you need to give your body time to rest and relax in between workouts and training so your body will have ample time to recover from injuries and other problems.

Problems With The Physiological Make-Up

Since kneecaps did not go through any assembly line and did not undergo quality control, some joints and cartilages on your legs and feet contain certain inherent abnormalities such as you being flat-footed or having misaligned knees. These abnormalities can make you more susceptible to runner's knee than others.

Lack Of Flexibility And Strength

Flexible and strong bones are crucial in preventing the development of runner's knee. If you have well-developed and strong muscles, they will be able to help alleviate stress and weight from the knee joints. However, if you have weak muscles, your kneecaps will feel the full force of your weight or the stress from too much exertion.

Just By Being A Girl

Because of the physiological makeup of women, they are more prone to developing Chondromalacia Patellae than men. Since members of the female gender have bigger pelvis, weaker muscles and more loose ligaments, there is a high probability for women to develop knee misalignment.

Over-The-Top Weight

If you have a runner's knee, you have to watch your weight because it plays a crucial role in determining whether you will have Chondromalacia Patellae or not. People who are overweight are putting more strain than usual so the knee joint gets easily degenerated or distorted.
